Our Thoughts
When safety meets convenience, you get two amazing car seats from Graco and Safety 1st. Each of these car seats have their own unique features, benefits, and certain drawbacks. Interestingly, they both share the convertible function that allows you to use them as a rear-facing, forward-facing and a high back booster car seat, which buys them longevity points, making them a worthy investment for the long haul.
The Graco Extend2Fit car seat shines with its extended rear-facing feature, comfortably accommodating your child up to 50 lbs in the rear-facing configuration, compared to the Safety 1st Turn and Go 360 DLX, which maxes out at 40 lbs in the same configuration. This is an important consideration for parents who wish to keep their children in the universally recommended rear-facing position for as long as possible for added safety. Graco further ups the game with a reinforced steel frame, adding that extra layer of durability and strength that surpasses typical safety standards.
On the other hand, the Safety 1st Turn and Go 360 DLX introduces an innovative rotating feature. This can ease the positioning and removal of your child, providing a conveniency other car seats might lack. However, the main feature, the rotation mechanism, received mixed reviews from some parents who had difficulty engaging it, especially with the child in the seat. Also, the Turn and Go 360 DLX felt a tad flimsy to some parents, invoking some safety concerns, compared to Graco's reassuringly sturdy steel frame.
Where the Extend2Fit stumbles a bit, is in the cleaning department. The seat cover proves to be cumbersome to remove, with tiny hooks hidden away in inaccessible spots. The 360 DLX wins this round with easy-to-clean features, including machine washable fabrics.
Examining the sizes, if space is a concern in your vehicle, the Extend2Fit is admittedly a bit bulky, possibly limiting the front seat reclining space if installed in the back. The 360 DLX doesn't remarkably different in size, but its rotational feature might pose installation challenges in tighter spaces.
In terms of airplane travel compatibility, only the Graco Extend2Fit is FAA approved in both the rear-facing and forward-facing configurations while Turn and Go 360 DLX isn't FAA approved in any of its configurations.
My final choice would be Graco’s Extend2Fit. The extra weight limit for the rear-facing position, the robust steel frame, and the longevity of serving your child as he/she grows are compelling selling points. The cleaning inconvenience comes across as a small compromise considering the overall optimal safety features and the value it offers parents on a tight budget. As safety should always be paramount, especially when it comes to our children, the solid, trustworthy construction of the Graco Extend2Fit makes it a standout option. But if rotation convenience is a must-have feature for you, and you're ready to tackle some possibly tricky installation procedures, the Turn and Go 360 DLX might be the car seat for you.
